Maine Coon

Maine Coons are America's first cat breed. legend tells that they the product of a cat breeding with a raccoon, hence the name, but that is false. they make a chirping noise like a baby raccoon and that might be where the name came from.

they are the biggest cat breed and are recognised by the CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) in every color and pattern except for color points. they are known for their big paws and tufted ears, like that of a lynx. they have long, shaggy coat that is shorter at the shoulders and a front ruff with a long flowy tail. they are robust cats and well muscled and are perfect for extreme climates New England. they are the gentle giants of the cat world (adults sometimes reaching 25lbs). they're generally friendly and are great with families with children and other animals.
